Responsibilities and Obligations of a Citizen
Responsibility is having a duty that you can be held accountable by. It is acting independently and making decisions without authorization. An obligation is something you are mandated to do morally or legally. The difference is that a responsibility is something you should do while an obligation is something you must do. U.S. citizens face many obligations and responsibilities. Your responsibility as a U.S. citizen is to be informed, participate in the government, and vote. Remember that the government is there to help your out so as a citizen it is your responsibility to know what the government is doing. By voting citizens can choose who runs the government, and make sure that a leader is chosen peacefully. Finally participating in the community and in the government is important so that we have a mayor and local heroes. Duties required by U.S. citizens are paying taxes, jury duty, and selective service. Without taxes the government could not pay its employees and therefore not be able to run smoothly. All men over 18 are required to register with the government just in case the country needs to draft people. Finally you are held accountable by law to show up in jury duty.
